REFLEXOLOGY

WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?
Reflexology is a method of stimulating reflex points (most often on the feet) as a way of encouraging the body to self heal and maintain balance.
HOW DOES REFLEXOLOGY WORK?
Due the force of gravity many toxins are pulled downward to settle in the feet. By applying pressure to reflex points, toxins are broken down thereby supporting elimination, reducing stress, and inducing deep relaxation. In this state the body is now able to function more proficiently.
WHY THE FEET?
On the soles of our feet we have the thickest skin, yet with each foot containing over 7000 nerve endings they are highly sensitive.
REFLEXOLOGY IN HEALTH CARE
· The American Cancer Society Journal found that 1/3 of cancer patients used reflexology as an alternative medical approach
· The Columbia Integrative Medical Program of the Department of Surgery has instituted the use of reflexology in the intensive care units of patients immediately after surgery.
· The National Maternity Hospital in Dublin Ireland has a whole department devoted to reflexology, they have found reflexology to provide amazing results for issues such as pre and post natal depression, endometriosis, PMS, inducing labor, reducing birth pains and much more.
RESEARCH
1. Easier Births Using Reflexology
Women who were candidates for surgical delivery had received reflexology treatment between 30 and 60 minutes of birth. 78% were then able to discharge the placenta.
2. Reflexology and Back Pain
Patients between the ages of 35 and 55, all of whom were teachers or office workers, and suffering from lower back strain participated in the study. All of the patients reported that the treatment had effectively eliminated their pain; 5 of the patients obtained complete relief after only one treatment, 10 after 3 to 4 treatments and a further 5 after 5 to 7 treatments.
THE TREATMENT
Some modern treatments may include the use of warm basalt stones, otherwise reflexology is traditionally performed with the use of our most precious tool ¾ our hands. No machines are used during a session.
HOLISTIC APPROACH
Although reflexology can evoke the body’s natural healing ability it cannot correct problems such as nutritional deficiencies. Such deficiencies provoke imbalance leading to sickness and disease. Proper diet and exercise must be implemented in order to achieve optimal health. Reflexology and other "Alternative Therapies" should be used as complementary care. They are not intended to replace direction given by a medical doctor.
